Notes Pre-presentation to Client

For this presentation to client I wan't going to go anywhere near a powerpoint presentation and rather go old school with a white board maker. These images show process through which I uncover creative direction and ideas that would make up the ad for the client.

Alternative Magazine Advertisements

I have personally always enjoyed magazine ads with a sense of humor and quirkiness. I enjoy it when the ad has problems, visual flaws and exaggeration. I feel as though these methods of advertising are the ones which have created the biggest impact while pushing the alternative and cutting through the clutter.

Alternative Street Pole Advertisements

All of these are some very cool street pole ads which all pretty much helped inspire thought behind final idea. Their Old and re-used as of today but the idea behind making your ad functional or clever is still there. Anything that will cut through the clutter and make an impact on the viewer.

Voortrekker Ox Wagon

Lets Look at THE OLD HOUSE MUSEUM

Now while I wasn't able to acquire images of a lot of the artifacts when I went to this museum it is safe to say that it is by far an extremely interactive experiences of the senses.

When you walk into the museum you are greeted by a real life representation of 2 scenes. The first scene is one in which supposedly the Robinsons are sitting down to enjoy a mean. The dress code is extremely formal and everything has been set to the T. it is almost as if we have walked into the dining room of a queen and to sit at that table would be a great privilege. Coming from a home which believes in sitting at the dining room table and enjoying each others company after a long day I began to relate to this on a very serious level.

This is extended further as into the bedroom area. Here you see a that is by far the oldest bed I have ever seen. It is decorative and dark. Looking extremely Victorian. Complimented by a 300 year old bible.

The rest of the house is filled with treasures of the past and Durbans original settlers. It has everything from a VERY old piano, to a gramophone, to a fireplace. All of which can be engaged with in touch, sound and feel. As a matter of fact I am happy that I cannot show you the way this Museum looks because it is such a spectacle that you need to see it for yourself.

Probably my favorite part of this museum is the voortrekker ox wagons which are in cages outside. While we cannot really touch the wagons, they are still a truly something to see. So much so that I have made them one of the key features in my work for the museum. They offer opportunity for advertising from the past and not only that but there is evident history tells stories of how these wagons would be decorated by their owner, almost overkill. To the point that they would match cattle that drew the carriage. A sign of prestige and just as our people modify their vehicles today.
Alright so here's the Deal though

On Friday this week I was able to get feedback from client regarding my process. What you will see in this post is a series of information which was presented to them regarding my plans for the execution of their brief. I found that the clients really enjoyed my ideas and engaged well with the content. It was well received and even the complex ideas behind some of my work was understood, which was great because I thought that i may have been asking for too much.

I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (http://www.youtube.com/editor)

In this video I get more elaborate on the possible routes that I could take for this brief and the direction that I plan on going in.

This video also occurs after a first meeting with the client and during that meeting I was also able to uncover some more direction. What concerns me still at this point is that I have not found an alternative way to represent the museums in the 2 main mediums which the brief has specified.

What If I added a sort of Local Durban influence, specifically directed at Indian locals of Durban and do something along the lines of pimping out a cart and showcasing that in a print advertisement. Argghhh there's still a long way to go.

Alright so I can't exactly remember all of what was said in this video but after a fair amount of thinking it was decided that Museums are a form of entertainment and need to be treated as such.

After this Video was shot I went on to consider the WHY factor, as in why it is an important part of our futures, to look onto our pasts, especially in local history and take in all that we can. A later video will go deeper into the ideas which are discussed in this video.
